Philadelphia's western suburbs have long been called "The Main Line" after the R5 train line that links the city to its surrounding suburbs. The Main Line has a long and colorful history associated with the growth of the area as a summer retreat for Philadelphia's elite society. In fact, Katherine Hepburn's role as the indomitable Tracey Lord in "The Philadelphia Story" was based on the life Main Line socialite Hope Montgomery Scott.  Today the "Main Line" spans from Wynnewood west to Paoli, including the towns of Gladwyne, Haverford, Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, Rosemont, Villanova, Radnor, Wayne, Strafford, Devon, Berwyn and Paoli.

In recent years, a "Western Main Line" has evolved, including the charming borough of Malvern and the lush farmlands and open spaces of Chester Springs and Willistown.  Near Valley Forge National Park, the historic borough of Phoenixville offers affordable small town living.
